Soulful Necessities for your Mind, Body, and Spirit

Spiritually speaking, Fall represents the Harvest time of year, a time to acknowledge abundance as our natural state of being - our birthright. Our lives go through cycles of growth, harvest, death, and rebirth just as we see in nature.  It's a time of transition, and it's important we create space for self love to remain grounded and present in our relationships, with our children, in our work, and to focus on staying healthy - physically and emotionally.

I want to share with you some simple practices to incorporate into your daily routine to help balance your mind, body, and spirit and strengthen your spiritual journey. It is said that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. Take from this list what resonates with you, try it daily for 3 weeks, enjoy the experience, and notice the results.
  1. USE ESSENTIAL OILS
  • Tea Tree: use for blemishes on your skin, dilute in water for room spray to kill bacteria
  • Lavender: relaxation and sleep; heal bruises, reduce stress
  • Chamomile: relaxation and sleep
  • Peppermint: stimulates the mind, alertness, freshens breath
  • Frankincense: relax, minor cuts, bug bites, depression, inflammation, immune system, spiritual awareness
  • Oregano: fight flus and colds
  • Lemon: clean the house; detoxify the body, focus and concentration
  • Grapefruit: helps fatigue and jetlag, antiseptic
  • Eucalyptus: colds, allergies, congestion, antibacterial, immune system
  • Sandalwood: calming, mental clarity and memory, aphrodisiac, anti-viral, anti-septic, anti-inflammatory, meditative state
  1. BE GRATEFUL

Journaling is a beautiful way to express yourself, to get clear on what you desire, and encourages you to check in with yourself daily. It helps us to recognize and appreciate all of the blessings in our lives.  Write down 3 things every day that you appreciate.

  1. SLEEP

Getting adequate sleep is regenerative for your body. It improves overall health, boosts sex drive, helps eliminate pain, lowers the risk of injuries, improves your mood, helps to control your appetite, makes you think more clearly, improves memory and boosts your immunity. Be sure you’re getting the sleep you body, mind, and spirit needs every day.

  1. BREATHE

Breath is essential to life. Deep Breathing - or Pranayama - improves overall health and lowers our chances of sickness and disease. The mind, body, and breath are intimately connected and learning to breathe consciously and with awareness is an incredibly valuable tool in helping to restore balance. Focusing on our breath is known to reduce anxiety and depression, stabilizes blood pressure, increases energy, relaxes our muscles, and eliminates feelings of stress and overwhelm.  Throughout the day, create moments to breathe in for 5 seconds through your nose, hold for 5, and breathe out for 5 seconds through your mouth.  This simple practice will raise your vibration and improve your energy all day long.

  1. GET GROUNDED

Walking barefoot, also known as “earthing,” has gone from being a quirky trend to a scientifically researched practice with a number of health advantages. It is known to increase antioxidants, reduce inflammation, and improve sleep. The health benefits come from the relationship between our bodies and the electrons in the earth and the planet’s own natural charge. Simply remove your shoes and walk barefoot in the grass, and enjoy the calming influence of this beautiful practice.

  1. EAT

Eat organic, clean, plant-based foods as much as possible. Loading up your diet with minimally processed whole foods, such as whole grains, veggies, fruits, nuts, and legumes not only provides nutrients to support healthy cell function but also helps fight chronic disease and inflammation. It helps you to feel more energetic, improves cardiovascular health, can prevent cancer, and supports mental health. It also raises your vibration, helping you stay grounded and spiritually enlightened and inspired.

  1. DO YOGA

Yoga improves flexibility, strengthens our body, tones muscles, improves posture, protects bones and joints, increases blood flow, boosts immunity, regulates adrenals, makes us happier, lowers blood sugar, helps us focus, relaxes us, improves balance, maintains our nervous system, releases tension, improves sleep, helps lungs function, prevents digestive problems, increases self esteem, eases pain, connects us with our inner guidance system, helps us to kick bad habits, builds awareness, protects against allergies and viruses, and encourages self care. Get on your mat every day, even if only to stretch in the morning for 10 minutes.

  1. SMILE

Smile at strangers throughout your day. This simple gesture helps to make people feel more connected, inspired, and is one of the most contagious of all practices. Spread sunshine everywhere you go. It will come back to you ten-fold.

  1. BE PRESENT

Take time each day to spend time with your kids, your spouse, friends, family, co-workers, your pet, with nature… without distractions and without any devices. Being present and fully aware makes you appreciate life more, improves your relationships, and creates space for beautiful new experiences to enter your reality.

  1. LIVE YOUR PASSION

What are you doing when you lose time? What makes your soul sing? What makes you feel empowered and energized? What makes you feel creative and free? Do that. Do at least a little bit of that every single day.  Live your passion and do more of what you love.

  1. MEDITATE

Meditation has been scientifically proven to benefit mental and physical health. It connects you with your inner self, reduces stress and anxiety, improves brain function, and makes you more conscious, compassionate, and aware.  Set some time aside each day to rest your mind.

  1. DRINK

We all know the countless benefits of drinking water. Adding a little fresh, organic lemon, cucumber, even mint to help hydrate you and to infuse your H2O with vitamin A, vitamin C, anti-oxidants, and detoxification makes drinking water a bit more enjoyable and healthful. Find your favorite jug and carry it with you wherever you go and notice the increased energy and vitality you feel.

  1. GET OUTSIDE

Spending time in nature provides you with a does of vitamin D, helps you to feel grounded and connected, improves eye health, helps you to sleep, and improves overall psychological health. Get outside. Every day.

  1. EAT YOUR GREENS

Dark leafy greens are rich in vitamins, minerals and chlorophyll. They help alkalize the body and provide you with energy, vitality, and strength. Throw them in a blender and start your day with a vitamin-packed green juice or smoothie.

  1. REFLECT

Take time each day to notice the beauty that is all around you. We get so busy and caught up throughout the day that we begin to take short breaths and our minds are processing thousands of thoughts at once. We can begin to feel overwhelmed, anxious, and focused on things that are not important in the bigger picture that is our life. Try to remember throughout the day to stop. Breathe. Take a moment to look around you and find something beautiful to appreciate and say out loud… “Thank you.”
